 Hi WeeblrPress,

We've got the amp site working yeah!! See https://spotler.com/amp
But the customer still wants the feature for users to set the amp version for mobile as default in stead of the responsive version.

You mentioned in a previous issue that you're working on this.
Can you give us a hint when this feature will be implemented?

Hi

We are working but it's not completed yet. This feature permeates through many areas of the plugin and can cause issues in other parts if not done and tested properly.

As using AMP for the mobile version of a responsive is definitely NOT recommended from an SEO standpoint - especially now that mobile-first indexing is happening at Google, I have to admit we have pushed forward other features (Elementor and BeaverBuilder improved compat., amp-consent to help at GDPR implementations for instance).

Even on https://spotler.com/ - a very nice implementation by the way, really neat and close to the responsive site in design and feature! - you can see that some features and buttons are missing, which is why a fast responsive site should be a better solution than just AMP. But that's your customer's call I guess.

I'll leave this ticket open and will post back with any progress, you can then maybe test it on that site.

Best regards

Hi,

Can you explain what you mean by
"As using AMP for the mobile version of a responsive is definitely NOT recommended from an SEO standpoint".

We have now a responsive website but some pages like the posts are AMP-ed. you can view both and they are canonically linked with eachother.

In your opinion what is the best SEO strategy?

Hi

Can you explain what you mean by

"As using AMP for the mobile version of a responsive is definitely NOT recommended from an SEO standpoint".
That is not recommended because usually, even with some efforts, the AMP version will be a simplified version of your mobile, responsive version. Some features, some text, some media, will be missing. If not on all pages, at least on some pages.

So now if you force AMP onto your mobile users:

- visitors will never see you fully featured responsive website
- search engines neither

It means Google will crawl and index your site based on the AMP version instead of the responsive, fully-featured version, and they will certainly miss some parts of it because of that.

In your opinion what is the best SEO strategy?
The best strategy is the standard one: have a good and fast responsive site, which is used for mobile users accessing the site directly and is the one indexed by Google. Have a good and as fully featured AMP version, which is taken into account by Google, Bing, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc and is displayed by them when appropriate (in search results, in Tweets, etc).

Best regards
